The Takla Foundation has announced the Young Syrian Art Award 2023, with the theme of “Utopia.” The word utopia comes from Greek and means “nowhere” or “without a place.” When we talk about utopias, we mean something that may be conceivable but may not yet be true. The Takla Foundation invites artists to formulate, shape, and make these unexpected possibilities visible.
The Takla Stiftung (Takla Foundation) award aims to promote contemporary Syrian art. At the end of 2023, the foundation will award a sponsorship prize for young artists, which will be linked to an exhibition in 2024 in the House of Syrian Art in Bremen. The total prize amount is 5000 euros, with the first prize winner receiving 2500 euros, the second prize winner receiving 1500 euros, and the third prize winner receiving 1000 euros. The award is open to young artists of Syrian origin under the age of 40.
Applicants should provide evidence of an artistic degree or full-time work as a freelance artist. Up to five works can be submitted in various formats, such as paintings, drawings, graphics, photography, sculpture, and video art. The selected applicants will have their works displayed in the exhibition, and the winner will be announced at the exhibition opening in February 2024. After the exhibition, the return of the artworks will be organized according to individual agreements.
